January Full Moon

The moon passes through a total of 8 phases approximately once each month. The phase of the Full Moon is one of “completion”; it is when the Moon has moved in its orbit so that Earth is between the Moon and the Sun. Because of this movement, the moon becomes completely visible and illuminated - emitting upon us a brilliance that is powerful and bringing a strong energy for us to embrace. This specific moon phase calls for us to reflect and release. It is a time to be mindful and be honest about what is or is not working for ourselves. We must give gratitude for our blessings, re-evaluate and visualize our desires, and release what no longer serves us.

This year, January’s Full Moon is a "micro-moon." In simple terms, it refers to the Moon's furthest point from Earth. This moon is also known as the Wolf Moon, a name given by Native American tribes. The tribes named the January Full Moon after the wolves, the reason being because they would hear the wolves howling all through the nights of winter in January. It is believed that in this month the wolves actually howl more, even howl in an attempt to “sing” to the moon. The wolf is seen as a spiritual symbol of protection, loyalty, instincts, freedom, courage and spirit - which strongly falls into the recurrent theme of this moon phase.

January's full moon is also called the Cold Moon, Severe Moon, Hard Moon & Ice Moon due to the harsh coldness of the winter season.

Each month that the moon works through its phases, it also moves placement in each of the signs of the Zodiac. Tonight, January 6, is the January Full Moon in Cancer, the water sign. Falling in the sign of Cancer, we will find a strong sense to connect to our emotions and may even find that our emotions are heightened and more intense than usual. This Full Moon will encourage alone time, independence & inner peace for each of us individually. Reflecting on our thoughts and emotions during this sacred day can help bring us clarity and will be beneficial in creating a shift in our perspective to create more stability in ourselves and our lives. Pay attention to the thoughts and emotions that arise during this time, it will be the encouragement you need for transformation.
