Honoring the Ancestors

Today, as we celebrate Indigenous Peoples’ Day, my heart turns toward the ancestors — the ones whose footsteps we walk upon, whose songs still echo in the wind, & whose prayers continue to live through us. This day is more than a celebration of history; it is a living remembrance. It is a sacred invitation to return to our roots, to the wisdom of the Earth, & to the spirit of interconnectedness that unites all beings.

I was raised by a lineage of traditional healers who taught me that every stone, every seed, & every drop of water carries memory. The land remembers our prayers, & the wind carries the songs of those who came before us. Our ancestors spoke to the mountains, the rivers, the stars — not as distant forces, but as family. They knew that we are not separate from the natural world; we are the natural world.

On this day, I invite each of you to pause & listen deeply. Listen to the heartbeat of Mother Earth beneath your feet. Feel her breath in the wind. Let the sun’s warmth remind you that you are part of something ancient & sacred — an unbroken thread woven through generations.

Honoring our ancestors means living in a way that brings healing to the Earth & to one another. It means remembering that every action is a prayer, & every breath is an offering. We honor them by caring for the soil that nourishes us, the waters that sustain us, & the future generations who will inherit this sacred Earth.

Indigenous Peoples’ Day is a time to reconnect — not only with our heritage, but with the universal truths our ancestors held: love, respect, reciprocity, & balance. These teachings remind us that the Earth is not a resource to be used, but a relative to be cherished. When we honor the land, we honor our lineage. When we walk gently, we continue the prayers of those who came before.

So today, light a candle. Offer a prayer. Place your hands on the Earth & say thank you. Thank you to the ancestors who guide us. Thank you for the wisdom that endures. Thank you for the chance to walk this sacred path once more.

May our feet walk in humility.

May our hearts carry remembrance.

May our voices speak in truth.

May our hands heal what has been broken.

May our circle include all nations.

May the ancestors' laughter echo in our bones.

May love, light, & sovereignty rise ever onward.

In prayer, in act, in remembrance — we walk together.

May we continue to live in harmony with all our relations — the seen & unseen — & may our hearts remember that we are never alone. We are surrounded by love, by lineage, & by the eternal presence of the ancestors who walk beside us.

~ Blessings!
