The Autumn Equinox

As I sit in quiet reflection on this sacred turning of the seasons, my heart is filled with gratitude. Today we arrive at the threshold of the Autumn Equinox, a time when day & night stand in perfect balance. It is a reminder that all of life is held within the great weaving of opposites — light & dark, giving & receiving, beginnings & endings.

For our ancestors, this moment was deeply revered. They watched the movement of the Sun, honored the cycles of Mother Earth, & understood that these sacred transitions are not only celestial, but also spiritual. The Autumn Equinox calls us into remembrance of balance — not as a fixed state, but as a dance. Like the Sun itself, we are forever in motion, learning how to walk with harmony in our daily lives.

What is the Autumn Equinox?

The Autumn Equinox is a sacred turning point in the wheel of the year. It occurs when the Sun crosses the celestial equator, bringing a moment of equal day & equal night across the Earth. Spiritually, this balance between light & darkness symbolizes harmony, reflection, & the cycles of life.

For many cultures & ancestral traditions, the Autumn Equinox marked a time of harvest, gratitude, & preparation. Communities gathered to give thanks for the abundance of the Earth, while also recognizing the coming shift into the darker months — a season of rest, release, & inner reflection.

On a spiritual level, this equinox invites us to pause, honor the blessings we have received, & gently consider what we are ready to let go of as we step into a new chapter of the year. It is a reminder that life, like the seasons, is always moving through cycles of growth, release, & renewal.

A Season of Harvest & Gratitude

This is the time of the harvest. The seeds planted in spring, nurtured through the warmth of summer, are now bearing their fruit. Spirit invites us to look within & ask … What am I harvesting in my own life? Perhaps it is the growth of your spirit, the healing of your heart, or the strength you have discovered in walking through challenges.

I encourage you, my dear ones, to pause & give thanks. Gratitude is a prayer that opens the way for blessings to continue flowing. When we acknowledge the gifts of Mother Earth & the unseen forces that guide us, we step into deeper alignment with the sacred rhythm of creation.

The Call to Release & Walk in Balance

The Equinox is also a gentle preparation for the season of letting go. Just as the trees will soon release their leaves, we too are called to release what no longer serves us. This could be a thought, a fear, an old story, or a burden you’ve been carrying.

Let us remember: letting go is not an ending, but a return. When the leaf falls, it nourishes the soil for future growth. When we release, we create fertile ground within ourselves for new dreams, new visions, & new ways of being.

Spirit teaches us that balance does not mean perfection. Balance is about listening, adjusting, & honoring both sides of the circle. There is wisdom in the light, & there is wisdom in the dark. There is beauty in action, & there is beauty in stillness.

On this Equinox, I invite you to honor both. Spend time in the Sun, feeling its warmth upon your face. Then, as night falls, sit with the darkness & listen to the quiet whispers of your soul. In this way, we learn to walk in balance, guided by both the outer world & the inner world.

A Prayer for the Equinox

Beloved Creator,

On this sacred day of balance,

I bow my heart in gratitude.

I give thanks for the Sun, whose light has nourished our steps,

& for the Earth, who has carried us with her unshakable love.

Today, as day & night stand as equals,

Teach us to walk in harmony —

To honor both the light & the shadow within us.

May we see that both are teachers, both are sacred.

Bless the harvest of our lives,

Bless the fruits of our labor,

The lessons we have gathered,

& the love we have shared.

As the trees release their leaves,

Help us release what no longer serves our soul.

May our letting go become an offering,

Returning to the Earth to give life again.

Guide our steps into this new season,

With gentleness, with balance, with prayer.

May we always remember …

We are children of the Earth & Sky,

Walking together in the circle of life.

Amen. Aho. & so it is.

As we enter this sacred season together, let us walk gently, let us walk prayerfully, & let us walk in balance.

~ Blessings!
