Expressing Gratitude

Gratitude is defined as “the quality of being thankful; readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness”. Gratitude is something that should be practiced everyday, but this can look different for every individual. It does not always need to be complicated or long, a simple affirmation giving thanks can be beneficial to our soul & spirit. In the chaos of our daily lives, expressing what we are grateful for can bring a calming energy & nurture our being.

Expressing gratitude by doing for others & your community is a heartfelt way to do good for those around you, as well as for yourself. Random acts of kindness, volunteering, giving back, paying it forward, supporting, educating, & listening are just a few ways you can give forward. Whether the act is big or small, it is about the simple action of spreading love & light to those around you.

A list of simple ways you can share the feeling of Gratitude:

  • Be kind & help your neighbors (Smile, offer help with yard work)

  • Clean up a public place (Pick up trash at a park)

  • Let someone ahead of you in line

  • Compliment or smile at a stranger

  • Purchase someone's cup of coffee or meal

  • Offer a seat to someone who may need it more than you

  • Donate to nonprofit organizations you are passionate about

  • Volunteer in your community

  • Participate in a charity event

  • Offer a helping hand to someone in need

  • Offer words of encouragement

  • Spend time with the elderly

Spreading kindness can look different for everybody. It is all about what kindness means to you & how you choose to show it. Whether it is through empathy, acceptance, thoughtfulness, gestures... It is entirely up to you. Practicing kindness can make a huge difference in how you feel emotionally & how you feel about yourself. One never knows the effect it can have on someone. The best way to teach kindness is by showing it!
