We have just welcomed the month of July, a time that encourages us to work on our spiritual growth. A practice that has been done for centuries & is especially recommended to be done at the beginning of each month is a cleansing of the home. It is one of the most important & foundational aspects of one’s spiritual journey.
By performing a spiritual cleansing of our home, we purify & provide protection to our sacred space & ourselves. This protection is against any stagnant energy, harmful wishes sent upon one, bad spirits, lingering negativity, & more … Any of these things can affect us in our everyday journey of bettering ourselves on any level whether it is spiritual, emotional, physical or mental.
You can do this ceremony or ritual whenever the vibrations of your space are feeling off & you know it’s time for a refresh. You might get the urge to do this when you walk into a room & suddenly feel a bad vibe, or if you simply feel something around you is having some type of negative effect on you but you cannot pinpoint what it is. Regardless, this is something that should be done on a regular basis! In order to clear out the old & make way for new, fresh energy to flow. Places, objects, & even pets or plants can pick up the energy of the people that move through them, & providing this offering of purification helps to keep that energy from lingering or resulting in any effects in the long term.
Think about it like this … Have you ever been sick for a week, bed ridden, feeling crummy? Then when you’re finally feeling better, you might feel the urge to clean your home, wash your bedding, & open all the windows to air out the house. This can be applied to both physical & energetic hygiene, we want to release the feeling of being sick & the stagnant, ill energy you felt while being stuck & miserable. That miserable energy can keep you feeling icky, even if you’re physically recovered! This is why cleansing is important, so we can release the energy & move forward in positivity.
Good Times to Perform a Spiritual Cleansing:
If someone in the house is suddenly ill physically or mentally
After arguments or negative encounters
To release stagnant energy
To clear the energy of a new home or space
Before beginning a new stage in your life
Possibly after inviting someone into your home
At the start of a new month
Simply when things feel “off”
How Can You Cleanse & Protect Your Sacred Space?
Keep Lavender in your home! Have some near your front door or places you relax, even plant on your porch or keep a wreath. Lavender rids negative energy & harmful influences.
Salt! Place a line of salt outside your front & back door, even your windows. You can also keep small bowls of salt in places of your home that you spend a lot of time in. Salt is essential when it comes to absorbing negative energy & providing purification & protection.
Place Crystals near doors & in your rooms! Some examples of protection crystals are Tourmaline, Obsidian, Amethyst, Smokey Quartz, Selenite, & Clear Quartz. Having these stones near will absorb the bad energy & in turn, replace it with their individual healing properties.
Have an Evil Eye Talisman! Hang one by your doors or windows, wear a charm, or keep one by your bedside. This blue eye symbol will provide protection & reject any harmful energy sent your way.
Rosemary! Boil a pot of water with a bunch of Rosemary, let it simmer for some time. You can even carefully carry the pot of water when safe, around the home to reach all spaces. You can also hang some Rosemary above your front door or bedroom door. This herb has been used for centuries for its powerful protective properties & abilities to ward off evil. It also attracts prosperity.
Simply Smudging! Smoke cleanse your home with Sage, Incense, Palo Santo, Smudge Blends, etc. Smudging is an ancient spiritual ritual that is used by many cultures & tribes all around the world. It is known to bring health, prosperity, & healing while it cleanses & purifies.
“It is your divine right and your spiritual duty to protect your energy field from unwanted influences … The divine self guides you always, & the luminous light of the soul protects you. Have no fear.”
